IPv6 with Miredo on Ubuntu 17.10

To access IPv6 resources or to use IPv6 as a global routable address for a local IPv4 machine:

  1. Install Miredo: sudo apt install miredo
  2. For Ubuntu 17.10, bypass systemd-resolve which isn’t properly returning IPv6 addresses (unless specifically requested with -6). Edit /etc/nsswitch.conf to remove the section “resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]” in the “hosts:” line.

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns myhostname

#hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns myhostname
